Dear Readers,

Friday (today), the 3-day soundON Festival gets underway at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library. Also this weekend, the annual Pechanga Pow Wow will happen. Lamplighters Community Theatre's rendition of The Crucible begins tonight, and weekend performances will be held until the beginning of February. Banda Seis en Linea will perform at the Sierra Madre Cantina.

Saturday, the House of Puerto Rico will host a Parranda at the International Cottages in Balboa Park. Parrandas are a musical tradition that takes place during the Christmas season. Reggae icon Don Carlos will perform at the Belly Up. In Borrego Springs, there will be an opening for a Contemporary Latin American Art Exhibit. The exhibit will continue until the end of January. La Santa Cecilia & Carlos y Charlos will perform at Music Box.

Sunday, the San Diego International Jewish Film Festival will have a Trailer Preview Day where you can check out what's in store for the festival which starts at the end of January.

Monday, the Goliards will perform at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library.

Tuesday, UCSD will host a history Zoominar on Entrepreneurs in Japan.

Thursday, the Borrego Springs Film Festival will get underway. At Knobbe Marten Auditorium, there will be a talk on Mobilization in Confronting the Climate Crisis. A 10th Annual MLK Celebration will take place on the USS Midway. At the Tenth Avenue Arts Center, the Giallo 2024 Italian Horror Fest will take place.

Next weekend, the BIG Salsa dance festival will take place at the Marriott in Mission Valley. Junior Theatre's Tomás & the Library Lady will open at the Casa del Prado Theater in Balboa Park.

Next Friday at the San Diego Museum of Art, there will be a lecture entitled Korea in Color with a reception to follow. The German Currents Kino will screen the film Afire at the Digital Gym with repeat screenings on Sunday and the following Wednesday. The Center for World Music will present the fabulous group Drummers Without Borders at the Mingei. Bailazo Grupero at La Sinaloense will include performances by five different Mexican bands. Banda Estrella de San Diego will perform at Sierra Madre Cantina in Escondido.

Next Saturday at the City Heights Performing Annex, the annual Karen New Year Celebration will take place. At the San Diego Museum of Art, there will be a Korean Longevity Shadow Box Workshop. It will be followed by a Korea in Color Composition Workshop. The one-day San Diego Underground Film Festival will take place at the Digital Gym with film screenings from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. The Filipino film Ma'am Tere will be shown at Pop Studio. There will be a reception for the Yadollah Kaboli Art Exhibition at the Iranian American Center. The Powers New Voices Festival will feature a reading of Pleasant. Poncho Sanchez, Gaby & La Buena Onda will perform at the Music Box.

Next Sunday, the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade will take place down at the harbor. The Powers New Voices Festival will continue with the dramatic readings of The Hispanic/Latino/Latina/Latinx/Latine Vote and then Empty Ride. The films Godzilla & Godzilla Raids Again will be shown at the Digital Gym. You can partake in A Culinary Journey with the SDCHM visiting a variety of Chinese restaurants downtown and on Convoy Street. An Art of Iranian Calligraphy Workshop will take place at the Iranian American Center. JC Company's Production of The Tempest will start with additional performances the following weekend. The Flamenco Tablao Series will take place at the Turquoise.
